IPX is the water-protection code in IEC 60529. The higher the number, the stronger the protection. When buying zippers you will most often see IPX6 / IPX7 / IPX8: IPX6 resists powerful jets, IPX7 handles temporary immersion, IPX8 allows continuous immersion.

Important notes
- IPX covers water ingress only — it does not equal airtightness or pressure retention; for that, check sealing-pressure tests such as 60 kPa.
- A product can pass multiple ratings; rely on the manufacturer’s test report.
- Ask suppliers for third-party or factory test reports for the rating you need.
